This Week in Homesteading
First, y’all, I want to share with you the happy news: we have baby bunnies! They’re the first critters born here on the farm and I’m so excited about them. They were born early this morning (on my mom’s birthday, no less) and seem to be doing well. I’m waiting for it to warm up a bit outside before I go handle them and get an exact count and some weights, but so far it looks like there’s at least five (two dark like our buck, three light/pink like their mama).
From my favorite homesteading blogs this week:
- Thinking about getting goats (like us)? Lesa helps you hone in on your purpose before you buy.
- Quinn of Reformation Acres just released an updated 2016 version of her homestead management printables. I have the 2015 version and can’t recommend them highly enough! Seriously, rush over to her site and get them!
- If you’re already planning your garden for next year, take a peek at this handy companion planting chart from The More One Sows.
On YouTube this week:
- Jenna Woginrich lists 10 signs you might be a homesteader.
- Aust from Homesteady shows you ideas to increase your egg production in the winter.
- Bev from Our Half Acre Homestead showed two different method for rendering lard: Water Rendering and Old-School Rendering. I was honestly surprised how easy the process was, and how nice the results were!
